I realize I have been very sparse in posting for the last few months - a few game reports and that's about it. Really just fell off the face of the earth for a bit, but it didn't mean I had abandoned my painting table! I had a book launch in there - the first book in my new graphic novel series, Mordecai Crow - and the promotion around that simply demanded all of my computer time!
However, leading up to the grand finale of Talavera I managed to do a whole lot of painting that never made it up on my blog. No biggie - not every soldier has to be documented - but as I had gone to the trouble of photographing much of it as it rolled off my table I thought I should share it here.
Mostly they are command stands, many conversions, that I needed for both sides. Some miscellaneous bits, fun bits like a French doctor, and then, three weeks prior to the last Talavera game, the sudden realization that I was 108 line infantry figures short of a French army! Those never got documented and have now disappeared into the rank and file. They look like the rest...
So I thought I would do a single omnibus post just to catch up. I hope you enjoy!
First up are some German Division generals. Back in April you may remember that I had finished the troops for Leval's 2nd Division but realized they needed their own dedicated commanders. All three of these were conversions.

WIP's, left to right Hesse Darmstadt, Dutch and Baden |

Finished figures. |
|
Hesse-Darmstadt General |
|
Dutch General - not sure about the uniform, I based it on a Dutch General from the end of the war. |
|
Baden General |
|
I also needed a couple more British officers, and wanted to do something a bit more active to serve as cavalry generals for all the British cavalry in the Talavera Dawn Attack scenario. I can't remember what these began life as, some HaT officer set, Russians maybe, but a bit of work on the lapels and boots fitted them out nicely for their new role. |
| Likewise, I wanted some dedicated French cavalry officers. The three on the left would be dragoon brigadier generals while the one on the right would be a light cavalry brigadier general, based on an image of Lasalle. |
|
These were interesting builds, using some Strelet dismounted Dragoon figures as starting points for the three on the left. |
|
Here's how they turned out. I especially liked the figure with pistol and great coat (right) and the dynamic feel of the figure twisted in his saddle next to him. |
|
I was also short a few French artillery stands... |
|
...and decided I would do up a couple of four horse limbers to represent horse artillery (I have typically done two horse limbers just to keep the models at a playable size). |
|
As I said, loads more French infantry - this was the only new battalion that got photographed - there were at least four others! |
|
And finally, just for fun, this French doctor and his aide from Srtelets. |
And that was about it. A whirlwind tour of what I have been up to over the summer - I will get more organized in sharing over the winter - promise!
They all look fab, Bill!
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking a look, Jonathan.
DeleteSome nice conversions and painting there, well done!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the encouragement, The conversions are tedious, but fun to do.
DeleteI missed these first time around. Always fun seeing your conversion work. I really should try some myself
